Almost 18 Months ago, I started making videos to showcase the hidden treasures in kitchens worldwide while also featuring the 3D Wooden Maps in my videos. Some recipes are absolute hidden gems, and it’s no surprise these videos went viral, reaching millions on my TikTok and Instagram Channels. That’s when many started asking about the unique wooden map I use to pin each country featured in my videos.
But let’s rewind to the beginning. A year before those videos, I was brainstorming how to make my content stand out. The idea of using a spinning globe or a flat paper map to pick a recipe felt too ordinary and not creative enough. I wanted something more creative and aesthetically appealing, something that would reflect the craftsmanship and the beauty to make my videos stand out. That’s when I decided to design the 3D Wooden Map you see in my videos today.
Step 1:
I started my journey right here in Germany, searching for local woodworking experts. I started taking woodworking courses to learn the craft I needed for making the maps. In four months—while also creating recipe videos—I learned a lot about the art of working with wood, staining and finishing it, almost everything I needed to start with the next step.
With some skills under my belt, I began sketching and refining the design of the world map. It was a step-by-step process until I finally created a design I was excited to bring to life.
I ordered my first laser cutter and started cutting the wood. I experimented with layering and combining different wood colors. Eventually, I created two stunning combinations:
- Midnight Oak – a beautiful blend of browns and beige tones.
- The Obsidian – a darker, striking mix of blacks and deep browns.
Step 4:
Once I was happy with the designs, I shared them on my social media. The overwhelming love and support I received told me I was on to something special.
Step 5:
Fueled by encouragement, I built a small team of two and secured a workshop to begin production. Two months later, we had our first 200 pieces ready to go!
Step 6:
I focused on perfecting the packaging and installation process. I wanted the experience to feel as seamless and enjoyable as possible for anyone who purchased a map.
Step 7:
Launch day arrived! I uploaded the first video showcasing the map. I sold out the entire stock around Christmas.
Seeing how much people loved the maps motivated me to go even bigger. I invested in a larger laser cutter, and now we are selling our second batch.
